User-generated content (UGC) ads feel real and native to the feed. Motion graphics ads are clear, branded and easy to update. Which one converts better? The honest answer is that it depends on the product and the message, and the best-performing accounts use both.
What UGC ads do well
- Trust: a real person using the product feels like a recommendation, not an ad.
- Native feel: they blend into Reels and TikTok, so people do not scroll past as quickly.
- Watch time: UGC often keeps viewers watching longer than polished brand ads.
Where UGC struggles
- Hard to explain complex products, software or detailed offers.
- Quality and message vary from creator to creator.
- Ad fatigue: faces and scripts wear out quickly, so you need many new videos.
What motion graphics ads do well
- Clarity: show features, prices and steps exactly as you want them.
- Sound-off friendly: kinetic typography carries the message on mute.
- Easy to update: change the offer, the price or the hook without a new shoot.
- Products that are hard to film: SaaS, apps and 3D product animation for gadgets.
Where motion graphics ads struggle
- Can feel like an ad if they are too polished.
- Need a strong hook to compete with creator content.
When to use which
- UGC: beauty, fashion, food, lifestyle and any product people want to see in real use.
- Motion graphics: SaaS, apps, finance, electronics, offers and launches.
- Both: most brands, in a testing mix.
The hybrid approach
Some of the strongest ads combine both: a UGC or talking head opening for trust, then motion graphics to explain the product and the offer clearly, ending with an animated call to action. You can also add motion graphics captions and product callouts on top of creator footage.
