If your Facebook and Instagram video ads get views but no sales or leads, the problem is often the creative, not the budget. Before you change your targeting, check these common video ad problems.
1. The hook is too slow
Logo intros and slow fades lose people in the first second. Fix: start with the benefit, the offer or the product in action.
2. It does not work on mute
Many people watch without sound. Fix: add captions and kinetic typography so the message is clear with the sound off.
3. Wrong format for the placement
A 16:9 video in Reels looks small and gets ignored. Fix: use 9:16 for Reels and Stories, 4:5 or 1:1 for feed, and keep text inside the safe zone.
4. Too many messages
Trying to show every feature confuses viewers. Fix: one ad, one message, one offer.
5. No clear call to action
Fix: tell people exactly what to do next and show it on screen near the end.
6. The ad and landing page do not match
If the ad promises 30% off and the page does not show it, people leave. Fix: repeat the same offer, visuals and words on the landing page.
7. Creative fatigue
The same ad shown again and again stops working. Fix: refresh hooks and visuals regularly and keep testing new variations.
8. Not enough variations to test
One video gives the algorithm nothing to compare. Fix: make 3 to 5 hooks and a few lengths from the same master ad.
Quick creative audit
- Is the hook clear in the first 3 seconds?
- Does it make sense on mute?
- Is it the right aspect ratio?
- Is there one message and one call to action?
- Does the landing page match the ad?
- When did you last refresh the creative?
